Key Resort Industry Drivers and Innovators

Consumers seek unique product from resort and vacation wear brands.

Karla Martínez de Salas, Head of Editorial Content, Vogue Mexico & Latin America:

“I think people are investing more and more in resort and vacation wear. We have seen this throughout the strategies at several retailers (such as Net-a-Porter and Moda Operandi), not only during the key holiday seasons but all year round. People are moving away from urban city centers like New York and heading south to Florida and Texas which [have] nicer weather. There is also a sense that resort wear is truly a place to find more unique pieces of clothing versus the globalization of the big luxury brands. People want something different."

Top SS25 Resort Trends to Watch

Matching sets, bright colors and metallics are trending for spring / summer 2025.

Karla Martínez de Salas, Head of Editorial Content, Vogue Mexico & Latin America:

“Some of the trends we have seen for SS25 are bright colors in yellow and red as well as pastels, yellow and coral, crochet dresses and separates, and a lot of white cotton and swimsuits. Many luxury brands base their entire collections on a specific destination, which leaves room for a lot of inspiration for smaller brands to follow suit.”

Githa Duncker, Co-Founder, Aquari:

“Matching sets and bold, bright prints have been a major inspiration for our 2025 collections. Sustainability remains a top priority for brands, and at Aquari, we've made significant strides in blending fashion with eco-friendliness without compromising style. Another key trend we love is versatility, with styles designed to transition seamlessly across different times and places, allowing you to wear and style pieces in your own unique way.”

Julia Mastro, Advanced Contemporary Buyer, Julian Gold:

“I believe our customers are continuing to look for a great set into the SS25 season. It's not as much about finding the perfect blouse and jeans anymore, but going for a full outfit ensemble. And thanks to so-called ‘miracle shots’, customers are wanting tighter, sexier, and polished looks.”

Madhu Vinay Killa, Co-Founder, Benaras by Citrus:

“Rather than focusing on fashion trends, we wanted to shift our focus towards lifestyle trends, where after the tough pandemic people are wanting to travel and explore our beautiful world again, craving the tranquility of exotic escapes at serene and beautiful holiday destinations and wanting to be in touch again with nature almost feeling at one with it.”

Victoria and Virginia Penna Perlini, Co-Founders, Don’t @ Me:

“We would have to go with metallics. They are what has been setting us apart for years and now they are finally the core of all overarching trends. We think they bring a sense of uniqueness and futurism, bringing the customer to a different era while wearing them. They make a bold statement thanks to their eye-catching nature and inject a sense of luxury.”

Madeline Mark, Fashion Market Editor, Revolve:

“For Resort-specific trends, I am most excited about sensitive and natural fabrications, a continuation of shells and coastal details and the evolution of European escape.”

Alessandra Acevedo, CEO and Founder, Ecru:

“So many trends this season have been in our favorites but for sure knitwear is  our main focus this season. Creating new patterns and techniques is something  we enjoy so much and we think it’s the next step for this wonderful trend.

“Embroidery has also become a part of our design process this season. We developed new techniques to give our pieces that special touch that makes them  stand out and feel fresh and fun to wear.

“Other trends we love are color blocking and degrade techniques both in knit and  flat fabric pieces because of the illusions and effects they create. We push a lot for  use of color in every collection we develop, so this trend hits right on the mark for us.”

How Buyers Approach Resort

Add resort collections into your mix to keep your assortment looking fresh.

Julia Mastro, Advanced Contemporary Buyer, Julian Gold:

“Resort wear is a tricky collection as a whole but so important to set the tone for the new year. My habits have changed in buying this collection as I now focus on purchasing goods that are relevant to that time period (November in-store date/true Holiday) however it can live on the floor until the middle of the spring season without looking out of place. I try to sprinkle in fresh new brands for excitement and growth in the advanced contemporary space and build on core packages within my pillar brands.

“With that, being in Texas, we love color year round so introducing bright colors at the beginning of the season is a nice, fresh take on the year. Events during that time also help with setting the stage for the following spring and summer months.”

Behind SS25: Collection Inspiration

Designers seek inspiration from various places such as nature, New York City, the overall warm feeling of summer.

Githa Duncker, Co-Founder, Aquari:

“At the core of all Aquari collections is a commitment to creating versatile, easy-wearing pieces, unique and bold prints, and mix-and-match styling, all layered with a sustainability and eco-conscious mindset. We love creating collections inspired by a global fusion of influences, bringing diverse elements together to craft truly distinctive pieces. For 2025, you'll see fabrics and inspiration from Italy, Paris, and Brazil, infused with elements of 70s glam and retro flair, with a touch of the spirit of California and Austin sprinkled in.”

Madhu Vinay Killa, Co-Founder, Benaras by Citrus:

“Our SS25 collection draws its inspiration from the lush vibrancy of nature, from the heart of the Congo Basin to the serene beauty of a sun-drenched beach. We’ve infused our designs with the energy of tropical wildlife and the elegance of swaying palms under a radiant sun. As global travel resumes, we remain committed to sustainability, mindful of our impact on the environment. The motifs of palms, turtles, and leopards throughout our collection serve as a reminder of the delicate beauty of nature and our responsibility to protect it for future generations.”

Victoria and Virginia Penna Perlini, Co-Founders, Don’t @ Me:

“Bright colors, hand dyes, sexy see-throughs, natural cotton gauze, and metallics are the six core pillars of our ‘I <3 DON’T @ ME’ collection. It’s inspired by NYC and the way it perfected uniqueness, diversity, and style, which are common attributes of all international metropolises, but no one does it like New York.

“We wanted to set a sense of ‘tropical getaway goes to the city’, mixing vibrant colors and light textiles with styles that one could also pull off in the city. At the end of the day, summer IS a state of mind, and the collection itself captures the essence of it. As always we have focused on brightness and uniqueness in order to make each piece stand out, all made possible thanks to our brand new handmade dyes that are made to be mixed and matched with our denim patchworks, see-throughs, and laminated pieces in order to make infinite combinations possible.”

Alessandra Acevedo, CEO and Founder, Ecru:

“Our latest collection is inspired by the feelings summer gives us. The infinite  sunsets, the wonderful memories, and everything related to this wonderful season  that makes us feel vibrant, full of light, and energy to make the best out of it. With elements and colors that remind us of beaches and amazing landscapes, this collection is the ultimate celebration of everything summer represents.”
